Segments let you slice your fan database into meaningful groups based on shared characteristics. Use segments to target marketing campaigns, understand your audience, and measure engagement.
Creating a segment
Navigate to the Fans page from the dashboard.
Define the rules that determine which fans belong to this segment.
Build your segment using one or more conditions:
| Condition type | Examples |
|---|
| Purchase behavior | Spent more than $100, bought 3+ items, purchased a specific product |
| Event attendance | Attended a specific show, attended 2+ shows |
| Location | Fans in California, fans in the US, fans within 50 miles of a city |
| Fanpass status | Has active Fanpass, signed up in the last 30 days |
| Engagement | Opened last email, clicked a link, redeemed a reward |
| Demographics | Age range, when available |
Use AND / OR logic to create precise segments:
“Fans who attended a show AND spent more than $50” (high-value live fans)
“Fans with a Fanpass OR fans who made an online purchase” (digitally engaged fans)
Name your segment and save it. The segment is dynamic — fans are automatically added or removed as their data changes.
Using segments
Marketing campaigns
Target email and SMS campaigns to specific segments instead of blasting your entire database. Examples:
- New fans — Welcome series with brand story and merch highlights
- Big spenders — Exclusive early access to new merch drops
- Lapsed fans — Re-engagement campaign for fans who haven’t purchased recently
- Local fans — Promote upcoming shows in their area
Analytics
Compare segments to understand behavior differences:
- Do Fanpass holders spend more than non-holders?
- Which geographic region has the highest per-head spend?
- Are fans from social media campaigns as valuable as fans captured at shows?
Export
Export segment data for use in external tools — email platforms, ad audiences, or reporting.
Pre-built segments
Fanhaven includes several useful pre-built segments to get you started:
- All Fanpass holders
- Fans from the current tour
- Fans with email consent
- Fans with SMS consent
- Top spenders
Start with pre-built segments and customize them as you learn more about your audience. The best segments are specific enough to be actionable but large enough to be meaningful.
